Brief description of the work:
My work involves the determination of structural criteria for the precipiously high stability of the glassy phase in bulk metallic glass (BMG) systems. This has involved the development of new capabilities of the electron analog of EXAFS, namely, extended energy-loss fine structure (EXELFS) spectroscopy.
Using EXAFS, EXELFS as well as XPS, I have uncovered atomic and electronic structural properties of the prototypical BMG system, Pd-(Ni,Cu)-P that explaing the high glass forming ability of this system.
